Valentine’s Day – Cleaning tips to remove stains

Valentine’s Day is nearly here and at Dynamics Cleaners Limited, we love a new cleaning tip, so we are thinking ahead to next week when Valentine’s Day will be here & Love it or loathe it, it’s the one day a year dedicated to spending time & often surprising our loved one, more often than not these surprises are often the traditional box of chocolates or perhaps a favourite bottle of red wine.

As much we love to be surprised and spoilt, these gifts can be two of the toughest stains to get out of surfaces & clothes if any accidents happen, we have listed below some tips to help to rid these stains if you should suffer any spillages this Valentine’s Day.

Chocolate soaks into fabrics slower than liquids, so if you get the stain out quickly you will have the most success. Using a spoon, scrape off as much as you can off the fabrics surface, wash the item in a hot wash, applying a pre treater or rub in a little liquid laundry detergent before washing.

Red Wine

If you have spilt red wine on a carpet/rug, using an absorbent cloth, quickly blot as much as the wine as you can as the more you can soak up then the less you will have to remove.

Pour cold water directly onto the stain, doing this helps to dilute what remains of the stain making blotting easier, continue blotting until you find that no more stain will come out.

Now make a paste using water & baking soda by a ratio of 3 parts water to 1 part baking soda and apply to the stain, once the paste is dry, hoover.

If the stain is on an item of clothing, again using an absorbent cloth, quickly blot up as much as the wine as possible and then generously sponge with cool water.

For a larger stain soaking the entire garment in cool water for 30 minutes, apply a pre-treater & was garment as you would normally do.

Candle Wax

If you have a thing for candles a heart warming glow can quickly become a hot waxy mess, but do not attempt to clean up the liquid wax immediately, the best thing to do is wait until is set and then try to remove as much dried wax with a flat knife, after removing as much as possible, place a cloth over the stained area and on the lowest temperature iron over the wax spots.
